Surgical Termination

Surgical termination is the most commonly used method of ending a pregnancy worldwide. It is a safe and reliable procedure when performed by experienced medical professionals.

At our clinic, your care is always our priority. Every procedure is carried out by a specialist medical team, and your experience is guided with compassion, respect, and understanding. Before any treatment, you will have both an information session and a personal consultation with your doctor, so your care can be tailored to your individual needs.

Surgical termination can be performed during the first and second trimester, from approximately 3 to 19 weeks of pregnancy. The exact timing is confirmed through an in-clinic ultrasound and medical assessment.

We understand that this can feel like a big step, and we aim to make your time with us as smooth, comfortable, and reassuring as possible. All services are completely confidential, and you do not need a referral to access care.

What to Expect on the Day

From the moment you arrive, our focus is on your comfort and wellbeing.

Your visit will usually take around three hours in total. When you arrive, you’ll be asked to complete some forms, after which you’ll meet with a trained staff member for a private information session.

This session is an opportunity for you to talk openly about your situation in a safe, supportive space. We will explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions you may have. There is no pressure to proceed—this is your decision, and you are free to take the time you need to feel comfortable and informed.

You will then meet with the doctor performing your procedure, as well as the doctor providing anaesthesia. An ultrasound will be performed to confirm the stage of pregnancy.

Surgical terminations are performed under twilight sedation. This type of sedation is very safe and is designed to keep you comfortable, relaxed, and free from pain or memory of the procedure. The level of sedation can be adjusted to suit your needs and preferences.

The Procedure

The method used is called suction curettage, which is widely recognised as a safe and effective technique.

The procedure itself is very quick, usually taking between 5 and 10 minutes. It involves gently removing the pregnancy tissue using light suction.

Afterwards, you will be taken to a recovery area where you can rest in a calm and supportive environment. Light refreshments will be provided, and most patients stay in recovery for about an hour before going home.

Later Procedures

For pregnancies over 16 weeks, the procedure is carried out over two visits to ensure your safety and comfort. The first visit is a short preparation session, followed by the procedure on the second visit.

If you would like more information or have any questions, we are here to support you every step of the way.
